The leak appeared just under the water pump. On inspection it appears that the coolant is seeping from where the small hard pipes go through the water pump cover (picture attached). I examined as best I could above that point and can't see anything wet up above. I can't find anything on the various forums detailing any kind of gasket there, and ...Feb 03, 2019 路 Had to top up the coolant on my A7 3.0TDi the other day in freezing temperatures. When I looked down to the floor of the engine bay I noticed a bit of pink coolant residue from the area where I reckon the water pump lives. Is the pump/seal really the most likely suspect to need replacing, or... Can coolant leak from the water pump? Yes, it can. The water pump鈥檚 job is to provide coolant throughout the engine. Thus, coolant has to flow within the water pump. Over time, the water pump may become unable to serve its purpose. In that case, the coolant will leak from the water pump if there is any hole or corrosion in it. Fluid loss from the coolant system or leakage from the water pump itself is a frequent indicator of a failed water pump. The weep hole on water pumps is a built-in safety feature that can notify you when the pump is about to fail. When one of the internal seals on the water pump fails, this small, unplugged hole enables coolant or oil to escape. It has to be cheaper than the dealer unless the pump leaking is under warranty or a recall like the turbo water pump on the 2008 MCS. The main water pump is leaking form the driver side, however the leak is not major at the moment. The water pump is a new component which will be ordered from a Mini auto-part retailer by the garage. After installation, NOTHING should be coming out of that water pump weep hole if the gland is in serviceable condition. If there is coolant coming out of the water pump in any way, it's defective. Those USB borescopes sound like a great idea combined with removing only one of the top timing belt covers. OFDec 05, 2021 路 Water pump leaks, and then the antifreeze or coolant dropping out from the system. Moreover, the engine can not get good service from the cooling system. Then the machine becomes so hot, which can be the only reason for your water pump failure. You can set up this concern by following some easy steps. Any coolant on the metal part right next to the lower radiator hose? there is a seam from that pipe to the actual water pump - and the thermostat is inside that. Also, check the other hose clamps - those were a source of a couple leaks for me too.3) Unplug electrical connector from sensor in water outlet. 4) Remove large rubber air intake hose to get view of PS pump and coolant union. The leak is now apparent at the bottom of the black plastic water outlet where it seats on the engine. The upper radiator hose exits here as well as a heater hose and an overflow from the recovery tank. Coolant leak behind left side of water pump. Ford Explorer 1998 V6 4.0sohc 256000 miles. You can clearly see the pink dried coolant.. I did do my Timing belt only a 1000 miles ago. And did notice filling up the coolant with at least half a gallon. Not to alarm you, but if the system built enough pressure to blow the cap off the reservoir, you have bigger issues than a water pump. That could be a head leaking exhaust into the coolant system. Been there with an old Pontiac Sunfire. Blew the sides off 2 radiators before they figured out the head was warped.Oct 21, 2012 路 Joined Feb 9, 2013. 路. 60 Posts. #4 路 Feb 27, 2013. I had a coolant leak from a loose clamp on the little section of hose (bypass hose) that goes from the plenum to the top of the water pump. If nothing's been done to the engine, that little 8" section of hose is probably 20 years old and could be rotted out. Sounds like water pump-- also the hose squeezed together is usually a stuck valve in the coolant cap-- clean in warm water or buy a new cap. The pump usually lasts until 100K miles or so. 2004duramaxLB7 Registered Joined Nov 12, 2008 3,307 Posts #5 路 Jan 3, 2010Fluid loss from the coolant system or leakage from the water pump itself is a frequent indicator of a failed water pump. Mar 31, 2022 路 This can lead coolant to leak from the engine鈥檚 exterior, lowering the car鈥檚 cooling capacity as the supply of coolant drops. #4. Water pump failure. Coolant is transported throughout the cooling system thanks to a water pump. It is usually driven by belting and therefore is seen around the drive belts just on the engine鈥檚 bottom part. May 25, 2020 路 4. Failed Water Pump. The water pump is responsible for circulating the coolant through the system. Usually, the water pump is driven by a belt. This belt connects to the engine crankshaft, but this part is subject to corrosion and leaks.
